Analysts forecast rise in Rock Phish exploits

Monday, September 15, 2008

Network security analysts have warned that there may be a rise in the number of phishing scams being launched by the Rock Phish fraud ring.

According to eweek.com, the gang has moved on to the Asprox botnet, an infamous hacking network that has been involved in a number of high profile email security attacks.

Now, evidence shows that the Rock Phish has completed a move on to Asprox, which may have begun as far back as April, when the group began using more co-ordinated phishing scams using command controls based on the botnet's architecture.

"It would not be surprising in the least in the upcoming months to see phishing attacks return to at least the level where they were a couple months back," said email security analyst Sean Brady.

Back in May, Asprox hit the headlines after infecting a number of legitimate websites which then downloaded trojan viruses on to individual PCs in order to add them to the botnet.ADNFCR-1765-ID-18779623-ADNFCR
