NY tops computer virus threat list

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

New Yorkers could be most in need of virus protection in light of new figures showing the city is at highest risk of infection.

Research conducted by security software firm PC Tools ranks New York top of the list of most at-risk cities in the US, reports NY1.

Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami also appear in the top five, with the statistics based on the number of attacks suffered by each individual user.

PC Tools spokesperson Michael Greene tells the news provider: "New York City was facing the most number of attacks."

"The kinds of attacks we're seeing are spyware, adware, viruses and keyloggers," he adds.

Meanwhile, a lack of virus protection was recently identified as one of the top ten vulnerabilities Windows users could face.

Writing for SearchSecurity, Kevin Beaver explained that he has seen systems with no virus protection at all, or where antivirus protection has been disabled.ADNFCR-1765-ID-18805682-ADNFCR
