Proceeds from network security course will go to charity

Friday, September 25, 2009

Offensive Security, an IT security firm, will offer a free online information security training course, with the proceeds from its optional pay content going to help children in East Africa.

The course is titled Metasploit Unleashed: Mastering the Framework, and its intent is to educate IT professionals in the use of the Metasploit framework. Metasploit is a collection of commercial-grade exploits developed by hackers and packaged for security testing, along with tools for IT professionals to create exploits of their own. In addition to the course itself, videos will be available for purchase, and it is this money that will go towards humanitarian aid.

Hackers for Charity will distribute the proceeds from the course. "What Offensive Security and the security community has created here is truly an information security work of art, and the fact that all of this is for charity makes it especially heartwarming," said Christ Hadnagy, lead social engineer at social-engineer.org.

With the advent of cloud computing and other remote-access protocols, experts say that data security is a paramount concern for enterprise IT.ADNFCR-1765-ID-19379622-ADNFCR
