Network security should be info-centric

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

Companies should adopt an info-centric approach to network security in order to avoid data security breaches, it has been suggested.

ITWorld reports claims from ExecutiveBrief that digital rights management (DRM) could be enhanced if businesses ensure they are protecting data at the information level.

That means network security which safeguards information chunk by chunk as it passes through the system, the article contends.

"Protecting company data by setting up network security measures has often been proven ineffective," ExecutiveBrief claims.

Using DRM, it suggests that technical teams can be given administration of user rights, such as who may access data and from where.

Meanwhile, CRN advises infrastructure administrators to ensure their network security policy is maintained in written form.

Policies should be "consistent, relevant and usable" if they are to be effective when put into practice, the news provider asserts.

"Well-run companies need written policies to set appropriate expectations," the article concludes.ADNFCR-1765-ID-18805673-ADNFCR
