Cops caught out by computer virus

Monday, September 22, 2008

In an unlikely case of the criminals catching the cops, a K-9 unit of the Riviera Beach Police in Palm Beach, Florida have found themselves in hot water after their computer system was infested by computer viruses spread by porn.

According to PalmBeachPost.com, the seven officers in the unit were reassigned to patrol after it was discovered that the network security breach could only have been a result of their frequenting online dating and pornographic sites.

"There was a virus and it was traced back to their computer. The unit has a very small office and one computer provided by the port," said city spokeswoman Roseann Brown.

She went on to claim that the department was already on the hunt for replacement handlers, while chief Clarence Williams was said to be furious about the internal network security breach.

The importance of strong data security was also recently highlighted when computer technician Terry Childs locked employees out of the municipal network in San Francisco.ADNFCR-1765-ID-18790895-ADNFCR
