Companies form cloud security alliance

A number of companies in the information security and cloud computing industries announced the formation of the Cloud Security Alliance, to be formally launched at the RSA Conference 2009, in San Francisco on April 21.

The alliance is a not-for-profit organization intending to promote the use of best practices for providing network security assurance and education on the uses of cloud computing, the group said in a release.

"The very nature of how businesses use information technology is being transformed by the 'on-demand' cloud computing model," said Dave Cullinane, CISO at eBay.

Cullinane added that information security leaders must ensure the rapid adoption of best practices for cloud computing at this early stage, without impeding the business.
The Cloud Security Alliance will issue its inaugural whitepaper called Guidance for Critical Areas of Focus in Cloud Computing, outlining key issues for customers and providers, at the RSA conference.

Experts in governance, law, network security, audit, application security, storage, cryptography, virtualization, risk management and several others have contributed to the knowledge network associated with the alliance's creation, the group said.
