Businesses face miasma of threats

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

Small and medium-sized businesses need to do more to protect themselves from a miasma of network security threats, PC Magazine has claimed.

According to the publication, many firms are ignorant to the true extent of the risks posed by computer viruses, spam emails, phishing scams, rootkits, worms, keyloggers and trojan files.

And while external threats are rampant, businesses also need to protect themselves from internal network security issues such as podslurping and data theft.

Network security researcher Neo Neophytou advised those businesses looking to boost their system security to make sure they opted for an antivirus product with advanced heuristics and vulnerability checking.

Furthermore, IT teams need to educate coworkers about the dangers of line threats, the magazine adds.

Elsewhere, MyADSL has also urged businesses to be on the lookout for new forms of malware which attempt to infect systems by posing as antivirus protection.

The viruses often appear online as free antivirus software.ADNFCR-1765-ID-18771644-ADNFCR
