Identity management boring but important

It is important that businesses do not neglect their identity management frameworks during the economic downturn, Dark Reading has warned.
The site reports that while IT managers may not feel inspired by doing so, utilizing identity and access management in the right way could make the difference between going under and staying on top.
It cited a new report indicating that because of the repetitive nature of keeping access and identity controls in check, it is often sidelined in favor of more adventurous projects.
"But poor processes can cost the company dearly, while good processes could save the company money," the website noted.
Indeed, research showed that 42 percent of companies had witnessed instances where ex-employees had accessed data which they were not authorized to do so, highlighting the threat of corporate identity theft.
Meanwhile, eweek has noted that with layoffs becoming increasingly likely, the need for effective identity management is even more pertinent.
