Palin suffers email security breach
Thursday, September 18, 2008
Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin has learned the importance of email security the hard way after hackers hijacked her account.
Following the break-in, personal messages sent to familymembers and private photos - as well as her password - were put up on internet sites in what Republican campaigners have labelled "a shocking invasion of the governor's privacy and a violation of the law".
A group calling themselves Anonymous has claimed responsibility for the email security breach, which comes as the governor faces cricitism for her use of the Yahoo! account for issues of state business.
Doing so is frowned upon because statesmen are at liberty to delete personal messages, while all email messages sent from governmental addresses must be archived for legal reasons.
Palin now faces an investigation into whether personal accounts were used to try and encourage influential state officials to fire her estranged brother-in-law from his position as a state trooper.
