Multiple flaws found in Firefox

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

A number of web security vulnerabilities have been identified in Mozilla's Firefox browser.

Labelled as critical flaws, FrSirt attributed the identification of the network security threats to a number of researchers.

In addition to the Firefox browser, the various flaws were also found to affect SeaMonkey and Thunderbird, putting users at risk of an email security breach.

Analysts identified a total of ten vulnerabilities, which can be exploited both locally and remotely and can allow a hacker to bypass security restrictions, launch denial of service attacks or even take complete control of a compromised machine.

Users of the products have been urged to upgrade to the latest software versions to protect themselves from the web and email security threats.

Mozilla released a new version of the Firefox browser yesterday in an effort to resolve the problem.

In other web security news, the launch of the Google Chrome browser was marred by the identification of a vulnerability which allowed hackers to launch executable files arbitrarily using crafted web links.ADNFCR-1765-ID-18794995-ADNFCR
