Campaign juggernauts hit by hackers

Thursday, November 6, 2008

Both presidential campaign teams were successfully targeted by hackers during their battle for the White House, Newsweek has claimed.

According to the website, Obama's campaign team were first hit by a suspected phishing scam during the summer.

However, the day after the spam email campaign had been identified, the FBI informed them that they had a bigger problem on their hands.

"You have been compromised and a serious amount of files have been loaded off your system," the website cites an agent as telling the Obama team.

Meanwhile, federal agents confirmed that McCain had also been caught out by hackers.

White House officials told the Obama camp that they believed foreign attackers were behind the network security breach.

Neither the White House nor the FBI had any official comment to give on the issue.

In addition to being targeted by hackers, Obama was also used in phishing scams which attempted to lure users into downloading computer viruses within emails purporting to contain details of a sex scandal about the nominee, now president-elect.ADNFCR-1765-ID-18862599-ADNFCR
