Virtualization hits the mainstream

Virtualization is becoming increasingly entrenched in corporate IT policies, one legal expert has claimed.
Writing on Law.com, Keith Jones points to figures released earlier this year indicating that 85 percent of IT managers implement some form of virtualization strategy, be that remote storage and email archiving or adoption of cloud applications.
However, he noted that despite the growing ease of use and robust nature of virtualized services, many companies remain hostile to changing the structure of their corporate networks to move with the times.
Jones warned: "We are falling into the same patterns of forgetting security in favor of adding more functionality in the virtualization world."
As such, he urged businesses to make sure that, however they migrate to virtualized services, they do so with network security at the forefront of their minds.
Elsewhere, eweek.com's David Hubbard has noted that when it comes to server virtualization, sophisticated, IP-based storage is the best way to maximize the gains of switching to offsite server management.
