Palin email hack case postponed

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

The 20-year-old student accused of breaking into governor Sarah Palin's personal email account will have to wait until next May to have his case heard, it has emerged.

David Kernell, the son of Tennessee Democrat legislator Mike Kernell, has had his trial adjourned pending forensic data analysis which is relevant to the case.

The email security breach occurred in September while Palin was still on the campaign trail.

Details of emails sent by the governor were leaked on the web and resulted in an investigation into whether she had abused her powers to try and get an estranged relative fired.

Kernell was arrested after screenshots of the proxy domain server used to post the account details was released online.

It is believed that because the full URL was visible in the screenshots, investigators were able to resolve Kernell's IP address from the images.

In other recent developments, the New York Times has noted that while Barack Obama may be keenly awaiting the commencement of his presidential duties, he may find it difficult to give up the use of email, which is banned under statutory law.ADNFCR-1765-ID-18884180-ADNFCR
