More companies embrace email archiving
Friday, December 19, 2008
Companies interested in protecting their data are adding email archiving to the arsenal of network security that may include anti spam and virus protection software.
One reason for the increased interest in email archiving may stem from programs offering functions such as good classification tags and fast retrieval of past emails.
With phishing attacks getting increasingly sophisticated, coupled with the fact SMBs are a frequent target of cybercriminals, email arching may present an extra layer of security for many businesses.
According to some email archiving companies, some SMBs are still employing backup tapes as an archiving system, which can lead to a longer e-discovery process.
However, SMBs should not see email archiving as a place for infinite storage for every single piece of data the company gets, Windowsitpro.com reports. Arching too much can have adverse effects on the speed of the recovery process.
This may be a good time for SMBs to incorporate email archiving into its overall network security plan. Many security websites and blogs have predicted cybercriminals to push innovation further with phishing attacks, spam emails and malware hosted on websites.
