John Street, Chairman and CEO, MX Logic Inc.
As chairman of the MX Logic Board of Directors, John Street oversees MX Logic’s corporate financing strategy and business direction. With extensive experience in launching successful ventures in telecommunications and Internet messaging, Street grew two businesses to achieve status on the Inc. 500 list and received Entrepreneur of the Year recognition in 1995 by Ernst & Young and Merrill Lynch.
Most recently, Street served as chairman and CEO of USA.NET Inc., successfully raising over $100 million in private equity financing. At its peak, USA.NET managed more than 33 million mailboxes and processed more than 70 million messages a day on behalf of its customers, including American Express, Palm, Netscape, Register.com and Goodyear. Street also served as chairman and chief executive officer of Telephone Express, a provider of long distance services, and grew the company from startup to over $60 million in annual sales before selling it in 1997. This sale resulted in a payback to the original investment partners in excess of 1,200 times their original investment over a 9-year period.
Street has served on several boards and has been involved in a wide variety of other startups, ranging from fulfillment services to direct sales and marketing ventures. He has also served on many civic boards and as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines. Street received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame and is a CPA.
Scott Chasin, CTO, MX Logic Inc.
CTO Scott Chasin is widely recognized as a leading visionary in the messaging industry, having pioneered the development and marketing of Internet messaging and collaboration technologies.
Chasin is credited with the launch of the first Web-based email consumer service, and he delivered the first IP-based commercially hosted messaging service supporting thousands of businesses and millions of end users worldwide. He also created and moderated the first full-disclosure security discussion list, Bugtraq, and was a key contributor to the creation of the first open-source, one-time password system, S/Key.
Prior to MX Logic, Chasin served as chief technology officer and chief visionary for USA.NET. The driving force behind USA.NET's technology and strategic direction, Chasin helped establish USA.NET as a leading provider of email and advanced messaging services. Previously, he formed one of the first information security consulting firms, Comsec Data Security, where he pioneered early industry efforts in computer security.
A frequent speaker at national and worldwide conferences such as Internet World, COMDEX, N+I, and ASPCon, Chasin serves on the advisory boards of Marcus Evans, a leading producer of information technology conferences and summits, and Ping ID Corporation, a leader in identity management and technology. He represents MX Logic on the board of directors of the Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group (MAAWG), a non-profit coalition of worldwide carriers and technology providers dedicated to eradicating messaging abuse.
Jeffrey Diehl, Partner, Adams Street Partners
Jeffrey Diehl is a partner with Adams Street Partners, one of the largest and longest-running managers of private equity in the world. In this capacity, Diehl focuses on investments in data center infrastructure, IT-enabled services and enterprise software and has been involved with investments in Harris Interactive, SPS Commerce, comScore Networks, Knightsbridge Solutions, Gevity HR and Net Continuum.
Before joining Adams Street Partners, Diehl served as a principal for The Parthenon Group, a Boston-based strategy consulting and principal investing firm with Bain Consulting roots. At Parthenon, he led strategy consulting case teams for small and mid-cap clients in a range of industries, including business and consumer services, software, communications and networking, and financial services. In addition, Diehl executed due-diligence assignments and advised portfolio companies for Parthenon Capital.
Diehl earned a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University.
Edwin Harper, Director, MX Logic Inc.
Edwin Harper brings to MX Logic more than 30 years of experience in high-tech industries, where he has been involved in establishing some of the world’s leading network security companies. Harper has served as president and CEO of several technology companies, including Colorado Memory Systems, a computer storage company.
His extensive board experience includes serving for nearly 10 years on the board of directors for Network Associates, the world’s largest independent network security and management software company. During part of his Network Associates tenure, Harper served as chairman.
In addition to MX Logic, Harper is currently serving as a board member for several leading technology companies that include Avocent, a supplier of connectivity solutions for enterprise data centers, service providers and financial institutions worldwide; Ditech Communications, a global telecommunications equipment supplier for voice networks; and RackSaver, a leading supplier of high-density, high-performance blade-based network servers
Harper received his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering from Colorado State University.
Kirk Holland, Partner, Vista Ventures
Kirk Holland is a general partner with Vista Ventures, a $65 million venture capital firm specializing in early and growth-stage investments in information technology, communications and enabling technologies for traditional industries. Founded, run and supported by successful entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs, Vista Ventures has broad operating experience in business development, sales and marketing, engineering, and operations with several startups as well as Fortune 100 companies such as Hewlett -Packard and Procter & Gamble.
Prior to Vista Ventures, Holland served as a vice president at internet.com Venture Funds, where he led several software and information technology investments. Previously, Holland was an investment banker in U.S. Bancorp, Piper Jaffray’s Internet and Enterprise Software Group, where he was involved in equity offerings and mergers and acquisitions.
Holland received a master’s degree in business administration from Stanford University and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Washington.
Carl Ledbetter, Partner, UV Partners
Dr. Carl Ledbetter joined UV Partners as an information technology partner. UV Partners, established in 1986, has offices in Salt Lake City and Los Angeles and is a leading early stage private equity investment group. UV Partners provides the foundation for the development of early stage entrepreneurial concepts into tomorrow’s industry-leading information technology and life science companies.
Prior to joining UV Partners, Ledbetter was senior vice president, engineering/research and development at Novell Inc. and was responsible for Novell's Venture Fund. Earlier in his career, he was president of AT&T's Consumer Products Division; CEO of ETA Systems, CDC's supercomputer subsidiary; corporate vice president and general manager of Sun Microsystems' PC Networking division; director of IBM's Kingston Laboratory; and a dean and professor of mathematics at Sonoma State University and Wellesley College.
Ledbetter earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from Clark University, his master's degree in mathematics from Brandeis University and his bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Redlands.
Douglas Schneider, Advisor, UV Partners
Douglas Schneider is a high-tech business executive and entrepreneur with over 13 years of experience in wireless and Internet-related companies.
Most recently, he served as President, Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Hosting Business Unit for Verio, an NTT Communications Company. In this role, he architected a highly profitable, premier global service company that met the needs of over 1 million SMEs in 140 countries. In an earlier role as President, Web Services, he built and managed Verio's distribution channels and service operations for its shared server, virtual server, dedicated server, and enterprise hosting product lines which collectively represented the world's largest domain-based hosting company.
Prior to joining Verio, Schneider co-founded a Denver based Internet service provider which was subsequently purchased by Verio. In 1994, Mr. Schneider was President and co-founder of a regional distribution company that performed customized equipment fulfillment services for OneComm and Netxtel with their first generation of wireless digital ESMR products. From 1991 to 1994, he served in marketing and sales roles with CellularOne.
